I am frequently asked to give my opinion on various skin care ranges. Of course I do not know all ranges intimately but my training gave me some knowledge of cosmetic chemistry. I sincerely believe it is a better use of precious financial resources to purchase a quality    product which has a high level of active ingredient and use it prudently rather than  feeling you can be generous with a cream that has only a trace of the ingredient and so will ineffective however much  you use. For a product to be really make a difference active ingredients should represent 10% or more of the whole. 

Advertising within the cosmetic retail world is clever and often misleading. Much is implied and it is what is not said that is usually nearer the truth. There are fashionable phrases each year. “Visibly smoother” was very popular. It really is not difficult to smooth a rough skin with a cream or oil but what we really want is for the skin to be retaining and attracting moisture for true hydration which will ensure it’s youthful look.

This month – June – I am introducing a new service. Custom Blending of moisturisers, eye creams and night serums. This will allow one  preparation  to address up  to 4 skin conditions with a generous inclusion of active ingredient guaranteed. For example I am now using a cream  blended to suit my dry skin type and into that has  been blended accelerators to treat my tendency towards thread veins and hyper -pigmented  alongside the essential  anti ageing element . This is definitely the way forward with cosmoceuticals. As your complexion alters and improves there is the opportunity to adapt the formulae so your preparations give you maximum results.

Invest Wisely.

Purchasing product blended especially for you is always going to achieve better results than an over the counter product where one size must fit all. I have always emphasized to clients that professional ranges have far more active ingredient than high street ranges. When introducing  a new product to your skin my advice is to do so progressively incase of adverse reactions.  Similarly when you first begin to use a night cream you can begin with using it two or three times a week and progress over time to nightly use. These measures help the budget and recognise the strength and effectiveness of modern preparations. The world of research into skin cancers has made available so much information about skin cells and how they renew and react that  modern preparations are highly effective deep in the skin and are not just smoothing over the cracks!  Thankfully today few question the skin’s ability to absorb and use key ingredients with HRT, pain relief and nicotine patches proving how clever this largest organ in the body is.
