“Thread veins”, “broken capillaries and “red veins are capillaries that have expanded(dilated) and broken or ruptured onto the skin surface. he blood becomes trapped and appears as a tiny network of veins. When the veins are cauterised with high frequency cirrent they dispearse through the normal system of the body.A genetic predisposition is frequently but not exclusively a factor with dilated capilllaries on the face. Cheeks and and nose are the most usual sites and females suffer more than men which suggests there being a connection with hormonal changes. Around the nose can be due in some cases to allergies such as “hay fever”. Caucasians with light coloured skin are most affected and common is a butterfly formation on cheeks and chin. An early indicator of susceptability is flushing which happens as capillary walls stretch and eventually a leakage of blood may occur. There are triggers along wth the hereditry factor such as sunlight, hot water, alcohol, spicy foood ,pregnancy, injury, sunbeds . These are quite predictable but one can add to the list aerobic exercise, cold weather, hot drinks, lanolin, fragrances, chemical sunscreens, saunas and steam. Smoking reduces the oxgen supply making it more prone to thread vein damage and the prolonged use of steroid creams can increas skin sensitivlty and therefore a likely cause of thread veins. Key advice is to avoid triggers .
Rosacea is a chronic long term condition and whilst it primarily affects the face it can appear on the scalp, neck, ears, chest and back. Often with persistant redness the progression is towards visible blood vessels and blood pooling. Successfull treatment of thread veins and blood spots can be acheived whereas treatment of thread veins on the legs is more problematic due to the depth of the underlying veins.
Rosacea developes in stages and as flushing increases and is more frequent inflamed pimples and pustules may occur. Rosacea is very different from acne and has nothing to do with sebum production. As blood vessels become weak so do lymph . If neglected rosacea becomes chronically inflamed with poor lymphatic drainage and progressive thickening of the skin . A treatment plan should look to ease the inflammation, reduce the dilated bloood vessels and repair the injured elements of the skin. Medication from the doctor may hepl even though ther is no specific bacteria involved. As a skin therapist I offer a non invasive treatment- Epil 2000- to dry the blood seepage and cauterise the vessel without breaking the skin. Correct skin care and Vitamin C facials can strengthen elements of the skin and reduce inflammation to prevent recurrence of the condition.
Rosacea is a progressive , inflammatory ,vascular disorder and is on the increas due to lifestyle and environmental issues.

A good concealer used under or instead of make up will disguise spider and tread veins. Spider Naevi have a central red body which blanches out when pressure is applied. It has small radiating capillaries that give the impression of the legs of a spider!
I recommend EVE PEARL SALMON CONCEALERwith CosmeNutrients. THis luxurious silky cream provides full coverage with a non greasy texture thta glides on smoothly to even the most delicate areas of the face. The CosmeNutrients provide the advantage of powerful anto oxidants , vitamins and minerals. Buy on line at daydreams online shop

This time of year is an excellent opportunity to treat facial redness and veins so the offe rfor the month of May is a 10% discount on Epil 2000 TREAD VEIN TREATMENT ….down to 40 from £45 and Vtamin C Environmental Shield facial discounted to £40 from £46.00.

Never had a facial ? Why would you ? Well you might consider it because it can be a relaxing pleasant experience or that may be your only impression if you have had a spa day with treatment. If you are a facial virgin you may be prompted to investigate when one of the numerous factors around skin health and ageing becomes a concern. The skin’s well being and appearance is influenced by a whole range of factors amongst which are lifestyle, environment, diet, hormones and ofcourse genetics. The majority of women apply topically some form of cream to improve the smoothness of the skin surface.
Skin regeneration takes place beyond the outer barrier of the skin . Good nutrition is essential to keep this large organ functioning but with age absorption and delivery of skin nutrients declines .In response the medical aesthetic market has devised technologies to increase penetration and improve vascular and lymphatic performance. New formulations are constantly coming onto the market and there is fierce competition to find ways to penetrate the skin ’s naturl barrier without causing long term damage. The epidermis (outer skin layer) must be preserved to provide protection from the environment and avoid ‘down time’ but treatment needs to be provocative enough to stimulate collagen synthesis. Collagen production takes a little time and requires vitamin A and C which is why we recommend a facial treatment on a monthly basis and quality home care with active ingredients . A ‘hands on ‘ facial is a wonderful feeling and will provide visible results but to help the long term anti-ageing battle Daydreams has sourced a selection of advanced technologies which we are happy to advise on.

gggggIt would be lovely to show off a beautifully toned body shape this summer and I commend those that acheive it because it takes time, dedication and perseverance. Failing that a beautifuuly tanned body can disguise many body imperfections and give the illusion of a slimmer silhouette! ‘Fake tanning’ has progressed from an odourous highly unreliable process to a desirable and efective beauty treatment. As the treatment has become more poular the solutions have become more advanced and new techniques and improvments are always evolvong. Daydreams offers the Xen Tan which has been a favourite here for several years but is now endorsed by many celebrities. The Xen Tan developes to provide a beautiful tan with olive undertones in minutes . It can last up to 10 days with the correct after care and will fade naturaly. It has a delicious scent and is both alcohol free and light in texture. Xen Tan’s penetrating moisturisers make for smooth application. . The active ingredient within a tanning solution is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) and this needs to be of a high quality . DHA is not a dye but it reacts with Keratin in the outer skin to create the tan. The colour seen immediately on the skin is only the guide colour created by dyes within the solution. The true tan will be see only after the first shower.
How long the tan lasts depends on several factors. Firstly as the tan is held only in the outer skin tissue its life will be affected by the speed an individual sheds dead skin cells. This is why exfoliation 24hrs before spraying is so important but be sure the exfoliant you choose dos not contain an oil which will act as a barrier. Moisturising the skin is the way to prolong the life of a sunless tan. Withouut the daily use of a lotion the skin can become dry and the tan will fade more quickly.
List price for a xen tan is £25 but during April a course of 6 will be £90.

I am not sure whether households still spring clean but it is a good idea as we come out of winter to wake up and energise your skin which may have been hibernating under wooly scaves and hats for the past months. To encourage you Crystal Clear microdermabrasion is is on offer in MARCH.
Dermabrasion is one of the popular cosmetic treatments performed in skin care salons. It has redefined the simple exfoliation process. Although mechanical this cosmetic exfoliation gently encourages the normal shedding of the superficial layer of the skin. A series of treatments has the benefit of not only refining and normalising the skin texture and surface but there is a regenerative effect on the deeper cells. This improves signs of ageing such as fine lines, age spots and minor blemishes. CRYSTAL CLEAR microdermabrasion is progressive rather than aggressive . The speed the crystals are deliverd onto the face and their abrasive nature promotes a smoother, fresher complexion. As the vacum action removes the used crystals and sloughed skin cells a mild redness may appear but it is short lived. There is no disruption to your normal routine.
The therapist is in total control of the exfoliation process so can vary where to concentrate work . Deeper exfoliation benefits blemished and acne scaring as well as pigmentation marks.
The anti ageing stimulation comes with the vacuum action which increases the blood supply and the nutrients necessary for cell regeneration.
Within the treatment lymhatic drainage is encouraged and the facial muscles are manipulated in a lifting routine. The effects from a Crystal Clear treatment are immediate and visible. The face is instantly smoother clearer and very receptive to product.

I am giving up frowning for lent! Years ago a client explained that the pink marks on her forehead were due to the ‘frownie’ patches she wore at night . At the time I’d never seen the like but subsequently I saw and bought them at a show. I’ve never worn them . Seemed to be a bit like strip wax. What I did start using in my Suzuki facials and as a home serum was the Invisble Expression Relaxing from Bio Therapeutic. Expression wrinkles result from repeated contraction of the muscles used for facial expression we project every day.The forehead is a primary site but ‘crow’s feet’ around the eye is another area. Catecholamins are released when the grimace is made and the excess of these creates the wrnkle. Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 which is an active ingredient in he Invisible Expression suppresses the excessive release of catecholamins in a safe non paralysis way. Other ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and collagen and elastin keep the skin plump and subtle . I went along using the serum until sometime late last year. Well it took a while to wear off but gradually I found myself frowning and furrows appearing. I’m back on the horse!

The beauty of working with a company like Bio Therapeutic and David Suzuki is I know they are always open to new services. Their systems are intelligent and developed with science and efficacy. They appreciate skin care specialists want knowledge and equipment with formulations that can be customized to the client ’s particular needs with a range of concentrated serums and masks. The non surgical face lift remains popular for many reasons

It is comfortable to experience

Facial muscles are strengthened and facial contours sharpened

It accelerates and increases product absorption

Results are immediate and sustained

Suzuki sequencing does not paralyze your face or bulk a single expression line. What it does do is address the visible signs of ageing in the skin tissue across your entire face. Elasticity and hydration are majorly increased but the most important feature is the increase in cellular energy which without help is ever diminishing

At the recent education day there arose a discussion about the age women should adopt this beauty regime. My view is that retaining youthful attributes is easier than regaining them. In younger women the treatments do not need to be as intense or regular. I see clients who began the treatment when they first saw signs of facial ageing and as the years have passed they appear increasingly young for their age. Originally we offered a 1/2 face free trial for this treatment and I am happy to do that again for any interested new client.

Mini course of 3 treatments for £115

Single treatment cost.. £46.00. 1/2 face FREE trial to new clients .

,

Daydreams has introduced two new products into the salon treatment procedure to make the wax experience even more of a treat! Daydream’s aim with Lycon waxing methods is to wax the most difficult clients in the most intimate areas with minimal pain to the client and the minimal stress to the therapist. Before treatment the skin is wiped with a soothing gentle wash that contains both kind chamomile and jasmine oils alonside Benzyl Salicylate for thorough cleansing. Next a pre waxing oil is applied to protect the skin when Lycon So Berry Delicious Strawberries n’ Creme is used for intimate areas. This wax can remove even very short hairs. Before leaving the skin moisturised with Perfect finish or Tea Tree Finish for sensitive skin types I now apply a specialist body care solution called ingrown X-it and ana anti bump foaming gel which contains arnica and calendula for the smoothest of skin. Waxing just got even better

Body dysmorphia is described as a condition in which individuals so dislike their appearance they will not look at themselves because they believe themselves to be ugly. They are capable of ignoring all that is right about themselves and only focus on some tiny imperfection. I experience this often in the salon although not in the extreme. Clients arrive dispairing about some aspect of their appearance and only want this specific issue remedied. Ocassionally I cannot even see what they are referring to and I have to ask them to pinpoint it on the face and other times to me there are far greater conditions that need attention. Ofcourse the client is always right and the most important result from a treatment is that the client feels better. I think women who favour botox and fillers tend to scrutinise one area rather than view the face as a whole. They invest money to remove a frown or fold because that is what they see every time they look in the mirror. My concerns are much more general and if I have a fixation it is with the skin’s suppleness, colour and texture. This is what I observe most on my own face and that of others. Soft lines indicate character and smiley lines are always good. There is no doubt that when we think we look good we feel good and perform and relate better. Let’s hope that is the case in 2012.

Dry lips can be so irritating. Why is the natural response to lick them? Wet lips are not moisturised. They are simply wet and soon to be even drier. There are an abundance of inexpensive lip balms around but many are actually drying to the skin. Lip Volumisers really can bulk the lip but equally really do make the lips very dry over time. The secret is to compensate with a vitamin rich preparation. Daydreams has a mini lip spa treatment it can include in any facial. It comprises of a gentle exfoliation, a moisturiser , a restorer and a protecting sealer. The Eve Pearl lipcolours are dual performance. Firstly they have a long lasting lip colour that stays true and because they are rich in Vitamin E the formula glides on and stays on.

It is said lipstick sales rise in hard times. True or false? I don’t think I have ever gone out and bought a new lipstick when strapped for cash or feeling low. That said lipstick is a vital and important part of our cosmetic make up and I doubt I have ever gone out not wearing it whatever the state of the economy!. I f anyone ever passes the commment that I am looking tierd I know that my lipstick has faded. Lips draw our attention if only because so many people lip read. Without lipstick I think the face is bland. Eye make up energies the upper face and draws attention but without lippy it is as if two thirds of the face has dissolved or disapppeared. Not everyone has the perfect lip line but nothing could be easier to draw in or enhance. So much easier than brow shapes . You know I hope to draw towards the cupids bow and not away. Lipstick names are as silly and varied as nail polishes but each title conquers up an image. Daydreams has recently taken stock of the Eve Pearl range of lip sticks and lip gloss which will shortly be available online at Daydreams beauty shop. Every name tells a story. Last week end a client going to an Oscars themed birthday party picked out a new lipstck called ‘Hollywood Affair’! My favourites are Enchanted , Love Story and Park Avenue Rose. The last is the exact colour of a varnish named Hot Pink Chocolate which was a favourite with clients in my first place of work. Daydreams is stocking ‘Kisses of Pearl Lip Gloss combinations for that smooth seductive finish but as of yet have not found the courage to stock the Pearlicious range. They have very rauncy names and the text encourages one to be ‘kissably sweet, naughty and have fun to the finish. All that to come.Prehaps we’ll stock for Valentine’s day. Keep a look out online htpp://www.daydreamsbeauty/shop.
